After releasing a coffee-table book, leopard on the rocks, last year, city-based wildlife photographer, Sanjeet Mangat, who left his medical profession to pursue his passion for photography, had his image of ‘a snow leopard trying to hunt ibex goat’ feature as a cover shot on the August edition of Sanctuary Asia, nature and wildlife magazine.

Mangat said it was for the first time that a Jalandhar-based photographer’s work had featured on a cover page of the magazine and the achievement had further motivated him to capture such rare events.

“The image of a snow leopard and an ibex, with the snow leopard trying to hunt the ibex while the latter balances itself at the edge of cliff so that the snow leopard doesn’t attack, is a rare event to capture,” says Mangat adding that the photographer was captured in the trans-Himalayas at 15,000 feet height and in minus 20 degrees Celsius temperature.
He said he waited for around four hours while the drama between the snow leopard and the ibex continued. “The suspense in the image is that one is left thinking whether the snow leopard made the kill or not,” he said.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
